"he confessed he would rather be 'outward bound for England,' describing himself as being 'particularly unhappy at being away from home, for I feel quite exiled here.' He went on: 'I miss England more than ever and find every trip here more of a trial. However, this is the most successful season I've ever had'—he was appearing in the John Balderstone [sic: Balderston] play Berkeley Square—'and this is the only consolation. I am going to close here 24th May and go straight to Hollywood to do a quick movie at very high terms. Again, much as I hate going, I feel I can't afford not to, as I will get enough money out of this film to buy our house...'"
