What a great work you are doing! I wish I were able to resume my researches.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the reason why I included this production though the name on the Stage Yearbook is Howard Leslie, is that Leslie actually knew Gertrude Sterroll and worked with her in "Sinners". The two actors (Leslie Howard and Howard Leslie) are often mistaken, it is possible that Leslie's name is incorrectly cited in this case. It looks like he played a bit part in this play, so it would not be surprising if neither Doodie or Ronald cited it.
There is documentation about this production I was not able to access: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/theatrecollection/search/play_sub_collection?notes2=&theatre2=Court Theatre, London&season2=1916-1917&play_title2=Hush!&unique_key=8470&image_view=Yes&x=19&y=20&query_image=
The Era is a particularly interesting publication for theatre researchers. It is a shame that it has not been digitised and made available online.
"Ginevra" - thank you so much for visiting my site and taking the time to comment. I appreciate your work as well and trust your judgement. Much of what I know is because of the research you have already done so I would not feel comfortable at all disputing your conclusions. I totally agree with your comment about digitization of theatre magazines of that period. I do not understand why Great Britain does not make all of their publications accessible to everyone worldwide. Please feel free to add your comments to this site wherever you see that additional clarification would benefit. I truly welcome your feedback. Thanks again.
