BBC Report About Leslie Howard's Death

[BBC Report of Leslie Howard's Death] On Saturday, July 30, I posted on Facebook the 2014 BBC report on Leslie Howard's Death ...

The Green Hat

The Green Hat* by Michael Arlen
Broadhurst Theatre, New York
Rôle: Napier Harpenden
Total Performances: 231
9/15/1925 - c. 2/1926

"The first act reveals the sitting-room of a hotel suite in Deauville, the morning after Boy Fenwick's unexpected death by falling from a window. It had been his wedding night with Iris March. And he died, Iris explains, "for purity." This is an exceptionally quarrelsome act, Gerald March, Napier, Hilary and Sir Maurice all shouting angrily at one another. Even Iris cannot keep them at peace. The second act, set ten years later in Napier's London flat, carries the story one peg further. Napier has just given a dinner to Venice, whom he is to marry shortly, and to relatives and intimate friends. After they have gone Iris appears unexpectedly. Napier finds that their childhood love is not dead. The third act in a Paris convent nursing home recounts the episode of Iris's illness there, and Napier's coming at the doctor's request. The last act in Sir Maurice's country home follows closely the last chapter in Mr. Arlen's novel. Here Iris and Napier defy the family and propose to run off together. Then Napier discovers that his wife, Venice, is with child, and he returns. Iris leaves madly in her motor. A crash and a flash of light indicate the rest."
